MathDirect Business Principles

MathDirect is an electronic software store that allows customers to buy software licenses and support contracts over the Internet. Licensed software is made available for download and installation by our customers.

Our business is entirely paperless. We neither issue nor accept hardcopy documents and do not ship boxes, CD ROMS, or printed documentation.

Customer support and technical support for our products is handled through Web-based interfaces and email.

We operate a Web server where customers have access to a wide range of information, including product descriptions, freely available demo software, mailing lists, and Q&A lists. Customers have also access to the data stored about them, such as personal data, order history, licenses, and support contracts.

We maintain high standards of customer data privacy and do not send out unsolicited promotional emails, nor do we make our data available to third parties.

MathDirect Web Server

Our Web server at http://www.mathdirect.com is divided into an open area for general viewing and customer pages accessible only to registered customers. Registration is free and without any obligations.

We also provide anonymous access to part of the customer pages. For ordering, software download and technical support, however, prior registration is required.

An optional secure server, https://www.mathdirect.com, allows registered customers to access our site without having to send passwords or order forms in cleartext over the Internet.

Ordering and Billing

The store area on the Web server, http://www.mathdirect.com/custom/store/, is database driven and allows you to select product versions, service levels, and order quantities.

All orders are entered into our database where they remain available until processed or canceled. There is no short-lived shopping cart or mandatory use of cookies for ordering.

Once you wish to process your order, a billing page lists order details and taxes we may have to collect (currently only for customers residing in Switzerland).

If everyhting looks fine, you can proceed to payment. Payment is by credit card and handled by a payment agency.

After payment authorization, a specially formatted hyperlink from the payment agency back to our server will enter your payment into our database. If you so desire, you may produce a printable invoice for your accounting department.

After payment has been processed, you are ready to download software and use the services purchased. You may do so at your leisure.

Licensing and Software Download

All software is delivered as a compressed archive for download from our Web server. You can choose the archiving and compression method according to your preferences and operating system capabilities.

Installation of software requires unpacking the archive and installing it into a particular directory, depending on the nature of the software. We provide detailed instructions.

Most of our software is licensed for use on one particular computer system for each license you buy. In case of Mathematica Add-On Packages, we use Mathematica's $MachineID to implement licensing.

Technical Support

Installation support (Basic Support) is included in the license price for all software. Installation support is provided through a Web-based interface accessible from the customer pages on our Web server.

Most products are offered with optional support and update contracts for various technical support options. Contract customers can use these services as described in the support pages on our Web server.

The detailed services we provide under support options are described on the product pages and in our service contracts.

Additionally we provide free mailing lists for our customers where they may share information and ask questions.
