PKzip compressed archives

PKzip is a popular archive format for Windows. Most likely, an extractor for .zip files is already installed on your computer (double-click on a .zip file to find out). We are aware of the following unpacking tools:
WinZip
A popular low-cost zip archiver and extractor for Windows.
WinSite winzip95.exe
A shareware zip file extractor that can also read a number of other formats.
PKWARE Inc.
Provider of the original pkzip/pkunzip utilities, including shareware versions of PKZIP 2.60.
UnZip
A freely available zip file extractor for Windows, Macintosh, and all versions of Unix. Binaries are also available.
Note: our archives contain so-called long file names, which must be preserved when extracting the archive.

Gnu zip/gzip compressed tar archives

Gnu gunzip
Part of the Gnu compression utilities for Unix/Linux, this program is available in source form; you may also be able to find binaries already compiled for your operating system.
gunzip.exe
A Windows program to uncompress gzip compressed files.
WinZip
WinZip can also decompress .tar.gz files.
MacGzip
A Macintosh version of gzip.

Compressed tar archives

The tools needed, uncompress and tar, are part of every Unix system we know of.
